Children and Moebius Syndrome

I was born in 1972. Back then there wasn't much known about the condition. The medical proffessionals weren't even sure if I'd live.

One of the first things that was noticed  is that my  feet were at 90 degree angles.  This is club foot and is a fairly common condition.

The club foot issue was remedied and although it took me ages to walk, once I walked there was no stopping me. Further surgery was carried out to transfer tendons from one part of my foot to the other

I think trying to remember all those years ago one o the things that frustrated me was that I cou;dn't do what all the other children were doing and I think I was quite a difficult child. Don't ask me, ask my parents! I've been really lucky because my paents and extended family have always been very supportiver towards me.

Schooling wasn't really an issue until I was 14, when the first ideas of trying to intergrate disabled pupils into mainstream schools came along. I was packed off to the local comprehensive school and I was left to fend for myself........I would like to think that things are slightly better now but I'm not convinced.

I always knew that I was different at comprehensive school. I was bullied and I was put into a class of children wh had sever special needs.  I  didn't have any idea of what I wanted to do after school. I'd left school with a couple of basic qualifications.  Two years were spent at Hereward College where I managed to get some GCSE's.....but what would I do next?
